Students In Grades 4-12 Will Also Vote on Election Day

It could be the event that propels your son or daughter into politics one day or at the very least make them care a little more about the provincial election.

For the first time in a provincial campaign, Elections NB and the province are teaming up to host a student vote at more than 170 schools in the province.

They are working with Ottawa non-profit Civix on the student vote.

Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth tells us it’s for students in grade 4 to 12 and allows them to become engaged in the process.

“They get supplied with all the materials that you would need to run an election, they will get the riding maps and voting booths and the students themselves will be the election workers so they will be able to see the election process,” Poffenroth says.

Every student taking part will be voting on the same day as mom and dad for the same candidates and the results of the student vote will also be available after the polls close on September 24th.
