With the Avenir Centre officially open, the Moncton Wildcats are increasingly excited for their first home game.
Team President Robert Irving says the players are looking forward to settling in to the brand new world class venue.
“Everything has been fit up to have a pro style type of dressing room and a place for the boys to come and participate in the game,” says Irving. “So we’re very excited here.”
Irving expects fans will enjoy the experience at the new $113-million world class venue, as compared to the aging Coliseum where they’ve been hitting the ice for 23 years.
“Day and night change, and one that I know they’ll really appreciate, the acoustics, the sound, the ambience, everybody will enjoy,” says Irving.
Director of Business Operations Ryan Jenner says from a player’s perspective to be able to play in a world class facility is what they want.
“I mean they dream of playing in the NHL, that’s their ultimate goal here, we’ve got five guys at NHL camps right now,” says Jenner. “The nice thing is that when they come back from those camps, they’re not going to be underwhelmed about what they come back to, in some cases they’ll be overwhelmed.”
The Wildcats will take the ice at the Avenir Centre for their first home game on September 28th against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
