Moncton Home ‘A Total Loss’ After Devastating Fire

Emergency responders were called to a home on McLaughlin Road just past Ammon Road for a structure fire earlier today.

Moncton Fire Department Acting Platoon Chief Charlie Melanson says they knew very quickly they would need support.

“As we were responding, we noticed the smoke from far away, so I called in for two extra tankers, plus the tankers that we had here,” says Melanson. “So that’s why we have Dieppe with a squad and a tanker, and Saint Antoine came with a squad and a tanker.”

The back of the house was fully ablaze when they arrived, with flames coming through the roof even before they arrived.

Despite extinguishing the blaze, the house is a total loss.

Nobody was home, although Melanson says there is some concern there were pets inside.

However, he says if they were inside, they were not found during a search of the first floor and basement.

Melanson says in this case, the biggest challenge was getting a steady supply of water to ensure they “don’t run out of water while we’re fighting [the fire].”

“Once we secure a water supply and we have our tankers going, it’s great we were able to get Saint Antoine, and Dieppe and our two tankers here, it makes a big difference,” says Melanson.

As of approximately 11:30 Sunday afternoon, Melanson says firefighters were dealing with hotspots, before a Fire Investigation team would take over to search for a cause.
