Election Campaign: Day 17

On the campaign trail Saturday, Brian Gallant said a re-elected Liberal government would double its investment in the Energy Retrofit Program to $40.5 million annually so hospitals, schools and other government buildings can become more energy efficient.

Gallant also promised to double the province’s investment in the Low Income Energy Savings Program to $4 million a year.

Progressive Conservative leader Blaine Higgs pledged $400,000 annually for a Family Advocacy Resource pilot project to help rural families with special needs children.

Higgs says he would create family advocate positions in four regions around the province to connect families with resources and supports, provide them with information and educational tools, and help them with long-term planning.

NDP leader Jennifer McKenzie said her party would help grow northern New Brunswick’s economy by increasing funding for roads and highways, creating a “made in the north” plan, and updating forestry and rural development policies.
