The family of U.S. Senator John McCain says he has chosen to discontinue medical treatment for his brain cancer.
McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma last summer and the prognosis was serious.
His family says McCain has surpassed expectations for his survival, but the progress of the disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.
Daughter Meghan McCain took to Twitter on Friday thanking everyone for their continued support and prayers over the last year.
