Conservative leader Andrew Scheer says there is a carbon tax revolt brewing across Canada.
Scheer made the comments as he addressed the Conservative Party Convention in Halifax on Friday night.
He said even Justin Trudeau is starting to cave after the federal government recently said it would ease carbon tax thresholds for large industrial companies.
“Conservatives know the carbon tax just isn’t bad for big business, it’s bad for absolutely everyone,” Scheer said. “That’s why, come 2019, my first act as prime minister will be to get rid of the carbon tax once and for all.”
Scheer also said a Conservative-led government would get the Energy East pipeline back to the table.

Political correctness was also a hot topic during the Conservative leader’s address in Nova Scotia’s capital.
Scheer said “forces of political correctness” in the politics of today are converging on contrary ideas and even on legitimate criticism.
“Justin Trudeau wants this, he wants to impose his personal views on the country and demonize those who don’t accept them,” he said. “But Conservatives won’t let Trudeau avoid accountability for his decisions by smearing and name-calling those who dare to criticize him.”
Scheer also referenced the recent controversies surrounding statues of Sir John A. Macdonald, saying we can learn from the mistakes of the past while still celebrating the contributions which made Canada so great.
“I think it’s a disgrace that some are allowing extreme voices in this country to erase our proud heritage,” he said.
