NB Charity Closing Doors

A local charity that helps fire victims and those living in poverty is closing its doors.

Big Hearts, Small City will stop its Moncton operations on September 19th.

Founder Jason Surette says this is a decision he didn’t want to make but a plea for volunteers has gone unanswered, and they only have two volunteers for their Bed Donation program, and one person in the office.

He adds that financial donations since they launched in 2012 have been around $21, 000, but expenses and the demand is increasing and they cannot compete with all of the other charities in Greater Moncton who are also looking for support.

The Fredericton and Miramichi locations of Big Hearts, Small City have also been shut down.

Surette says, once the Moncton location closes, they will distribute assets left to other charitable organizations.
