Aretha Franklin Gone at 76

The woman known as the “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin, has died at 76.

In a career that started in 1960, she posted total of 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries and 20 number-one R&B singles, becoming the most charted female artist in the chart’s history. She also received 18 Grammy awards.

A Pop and R & B Icon, Franklin’s career faded in the seventies but in 1980, she was featured in the John Belushi/Dan Akroyd smash hit “The Blues Brothers” which introduced her to a new generation and regignited her career.

She was reported to be bed-ridden earlier this week and had received numerous visitors including Stevie Wonder and Jesse Jackson.
