Fredericton Mayor Mike O’Brien says the city has received words of support from across the country in the aftermath of this tragedy.
“Mayors and government officials are all pledging their support. They are feeling a loss and shock for our city. I can’t tell you how comforting their words of support are We lost four members of our community. We are collectively grieving, but we will heal together.”
He adds all of the support has been very humbling.
Pride celebrations are being held in Fredericton today. A Pride parade is planned for tonight, and O’Brien says he is hoping this will help the healing, “Marching through the city in celebration of diversity and culture and pride, and to start rebuilding our faith in the community. Those things are important to show that we still exist as a community, and it is the way to celebrate in the midst of this grief.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in New Brunswick today. Early this afternoon, he spent time with members of the Fredericton Police Force, and their families. He also laid flowers at the memorial, and he will also attend this evenings Pride events.
