Fan Launches Petition To Keep NBL Team At Moncton Coliseum

After a successful first season from the Moncton Magic, the fan base for the team, continues to grow, but supporters are afraid that a move from the Moncton Coliseum, to the downtown events centre, might end up hurting the team, instead of helping it.

Chrystal Sarson has launched a petition, with the hopes of garnering a lot of support for the team having their home court at the Coliseum, for another few seasons.

“It is a new franchise this year, so we don’t have a huge fan base like the Moncton Wildcats do. The fans think that, with another year or two at the Coliseum, we could build a bigger fan base.”

She attended all of the games with her family this past season, and she has grown to love the sport of basketball with the help of her son who served as a Ball Boy for the team.

“He found basketball about two years ago, and it has made a big difference in his life. Working with the Magic, he looks up to a lot of the players, and it has been very good for him,” Sarson says.

She says believes basketball is a growing sport in the City.

“We’re worried that if it moves, it may not make it as long. For us fans, we really do not want to lose basketball, and the players have been great role models for all of the kids.”

The petition has around 200 signatures so far, but Sarson is hoping to have many more, when she presents it to City Council.
