Many supporters of St. Pat’s Family Centre are expected to pack Moncton City Council Chambers for tonight’s meeting.
The Centre closed last Friday, due to financial issues.
Melanie Cote was a member for the past ten years. She says they are being given five minutes to speak.
“Our hope is that we are going to be heard by City Council. I am pretty sure that many members of City Council are aware of the problems at St. Pat’s, so we just need to step up and do something as a community.”
Cote says this closure is a major blow to a lot of people, but youth and seniors are especially affected.
“The aquafitness ladies, they won’t go anywhere else. They don’t offer the same family spirit that St. Pat’s did. Kids and the elderly, that is the worst for them, so that is why we are trying to show the province and everyone in the community that we truly believe St. Pat’s should live. We’ve asked community members and St. Pat’s supporters to come to Council to show them what St. Pat’s means to us.”
Moncton City Council meets at 4pm this afternoon.
