Greater Moncton SPCA Still Hoping For Funding From Dieppe For New Shelter

Fundraising continues in an effort to raise $5.8 million to build a new shelter for the Greater Moncton SPCA.

So far, funding commitments have been received from the City of Moncton, Town of Riverview and from the provincial government.

But Executive Director Dave Rogers says they made a presentation Dieppe City Council, and also applied for a grant, “We received a reply from the City of Dieppe and they denied our request for funding. Their reasoning is that they don’t give grants for new buildings of renovations for buildings.”

In a statement from the City of Dieppe, they said Policy L-20 is the policy that covers donation requests, and applications must not involve a construction or renovation project or a project to restore premises or a building.

Rogers says he is disappointed, because they ran into a similar situation with the City of Moncton, but the City moved the request to another program….and the SPCA was approved for funding.

His hope is that the City of Dieppe will reconsider in the upcoming budget process for 2019.

The City of Moncton has committed $375, 000 and the Town of Riverview, will provide $5000 this year, and years going forward. The province has also committed $450, 000.
