Dominic Cardy Running For PCs In Fredericton West-Hanwell

A former NDP leader has thrown his hat back into the political ring, but this time he’s running for the Progressive Conservatives.

Dominic Cardy has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the riding of Fredericton West-Hanwell.

Cardy tried to win that seat back in 2014 but lost to Brian Macdonald, who is not re-offering in this September’s election.

He also ran unsuccessfully for the NDP during byelections in Rothesay and Saint John East.

Cardy stepped down as NDP leader in early 2017 over what he described as party “infighting” and leveled criticism at what he described as a tiny minority of well-connected members refusing to accept the will of the party membership.

He then went on to become chief of staff for the provincial Progressive Conservatives.
