The New Brunswick Medical Society would like to see health care changes made a priority by politicians running in the upcoming provincial election.
According to the society, there are 44,000 New Brunswickers without a family doctor.
The province also has 39 family doctor vacancies and 66 opportunities for specialists that are yet to be filled.
He says restrictive and unappealing recruitment are just two of the things to blame.
“These physicians, both family doctors and specialists, are in high demand. Every province wants to attract them. So we have to be innovative. We have to be more aggressive in the recruitment,” he says.
The Society is asking the province’s leaders to take action and improve health care for all New Brunswickers as they roll out their election platforms.
Dr. Singh believes the health care system is not as good as it could be and New Brunswickers deserve better.
