Some New Brunswick coffee shops will be serving up fraud prevention tips along with your favourite latte and snack this summer.
Members of the Financial and Consumer Services Commission will visit seven cafés and ice cream shops throughout the month of July.
The commission’s Marissa Sollows says the first stop is Java Moose in Rothesay from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
“It’s just a way for us to come to different communities in the province and be in a comfortable and familiar place for people to be able to ask us questions or share any concerns or stories that they have,” says Sollows.
Hey Rothesay! Want a free coffee? Come say hi at @javamoosecoffee tomorrow. We’ll be sharing our fraud tips until 2:00 pm – and your coffee will be on us. https://t.co/2i8P7ju4oK pic.twitter.com/qN1YmRbx4F

Sollows says fraud can be devastating and they want New Brunswickers to be aware of the warning signs so they can better protect themselves and their loved ones.
According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, New Brunswickers have reported losses of over $34,000 since the beginning of the year.

If you can’t visit one of the pop-up events, the commission is also holding two summer contests on its online trivia game, Fortune, to help New Brunswickers test their fraud awareness and financial smarts.
