The Adopt-a-Highway program is being brought back to New Brunswick.
After being abandoned about a decade ago by the province’s Environmental Trust Fund, the Gallant government has reinstated the program in which volunteer groups take part in clean-up efforts along provincially designated highways.
While volunteers organize and supervise the effort, the Department of Transportation provides garbage bags, reflective vests, hard hats, signs and gloves.
Three groups in Miramichi have become the first to volunteer under the reinstatement.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser is encouraging volunteers across the province to contact their district offices and adopt a section of highway.
