How To Cope With A Summer Heatwave

As an early summer heatwave continues in New Brunswick, the Canadian Cancer Society has some advice about coping in the heat.

Steps like applying sunscreen, seeking out shade when possible and wearing a hat are a good start.

But spokesperson Michelle St. Pierre says trying to stay out of the midday sun is also a wise choice.

“Avoiding peak time hours between 11am and 3pm. That is usually the time of the day when UVA’s and UVB’s are strongest… both of them,” she notes.

She advises parents to keep a close watch on children to make sure they have sunscreen and are covered properly.

She adds babies should never be exposed to the sun for long because they can burn very quickly.
