Local Students Collecting Prescription Eyeglasses For Less Fortunate In Phillipines

Students in the Marketing and Sales program at Oulton College are hoping to help the less fortunate in the Phillipines.

Katie Leith says they have started a collection to be donated to a non profit vision care organization, “We are collecting older eyeglasses and we will be sending them to the Phillipines for the Eye Train. They offer free eye checkups and prescription glasses to the less fortunate. We’re taking any prescriptions, any styles, no matter how old they are. We are taking prescription sunglasses as well as regular glasses.”

The eye train is an old train renovated into a complete exam room. Donations that are received are matched up by prescription and given to those in need.

“They match them up to prescriptions and if they need them, they modify them slightly. They clean them up and buffer out the scratches and make sure that they are in perfect conditions for them,” Leith says.

Leith is hoping to collect over 200 hundred pairs of glasses.

To make a donation, you can reach out to Katie directly, at 506-545-5599, or you can drop them off at Oulton College reception under Katie’s name.
