Postal Union Won’t Give Up Fight To Fully Restore Door-to-Door Delivery

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is disappointed by the Trudeau government and claims the prime minister has broken a campaign promise to restore door-to-door mail delivery.

CUPW national president Mike Palecek says it appears the government is backing down.

“We are however pleased that we have been able to save door-to-door-delivery for four million addresses across the country. We’re glad to see this program has been cancelled. It never should have been brought in to begin with,” says Palecek.

The federal government announced Canada Post will be halting a move to community mailboxes but notes personal delivery won’t be restored to those who lost it in 2014.

Palacek says the union is not giving up on those households which no longer have door-to-door delivery and the issue will be brought to the bargaining table during the current negotiations.

But Palecek adds he is encouraged that the government appears to be open to innovation and an expansion of services at Canada Post.
