Provincial Assessment Results For Anglophone East Continue Upward Trend, But Remain A Mixed Bag

There’s both good and bad news in the provincial assessment results released late Friday for the Anglophone East School District.

For Grade 2 students tested on reading, 71.3% were found to be appropriate or above, which is 2.9% higher than the previous year, but is still 4.5% under the combined provincial result.

For Grades 6 to 8, the good news is a continuing upward trend in results for reading, math and science, with scores jumping 6.4%, 12.9% and 4% respectively.

The bad news is for those three tests, the percentage of students judged appropriate or above was 59.9% in reading, and 28.9%, and 27.8% for math and science respectively.

Finally, 82.2% of Anglophone East Grade 9 students scored appropriate or higher on their reading assessment.

That is the only category in which this district ranked higher than the provincial result, by 1.9%.

When it comes to other assessments for students between Grades 9 and 12, like writing, and oral communication, the supplied data was either incomplete, or missing entirely.

Our newsroom has reached out to the province asking for the outstanding reports, but no response so far.
