January Thaw Not Putting A Damper On Poley Mountain Season

Poley Mountain may have had to close its slopes for a couple of days due to the unusual weather but that hasn’t put a damper on the season.

General Manager Bill Anderson says they’ve been open over 27 days so far and they’ve made a lot of snow.

“We’ve made up to 500 hours which is a normal year of making snow, and we’re only really the first week of January right now,” says Anderson.

He says a melt like this isn’t unusual.

“We made a lot of snow but this is our January thaw which we get every year, and sometimes we get more than one,” says Anderson. “When the system passes through we’ll be back making snow!”

With all of the rain we’ve had over the past two days, there is much more snow making to be done, but Anderson is confident they will have skiers back on the mountain very shortly.
