Mini-Split Units Installed And Ready To Provide Warmth To SPCA

The Greater Moncton SPCA is about to get a lot warmer.

Last week, we learned Black and MacDonald and LG Canada would donate two mini-split heating units to the shelter.

Executive Director Dave Rogers says they arrived this week and have been installed in the two larger rooms in the building, “One area that we call the Pound, which is a large area that animals go to, when they first come in off the street as strays. The second room, if you have ever been out to visit a dog here, is the Dog Room, the largest room in our building.”

Rogers expects the mini splits will be active within the next couple of days.

“They should be able to effectively drop the load or the requirement on the boilers by about 50 per cent. That will give the boilers enough chance to survive the next few years running at 50 per cent capacity,” Rogers says.

In turn, this will mean a major savings on their heating bill, “We may drop our monthly bill from $8000 to around $5500,” Rogers adds.

The mini splits also provide a cooling system in the summer which is something the shelter hasn’t had before.
