Intense Winter Storm Heading For NB

A major storm system is barreling up the East Coast of the United States and is heading for Atlantic Canada on Thursday.

A winter storm warning has been posted for Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick.

Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says a mixed bag of precipitation is on the way.

“We’re expecting to see snow at times heavy with blowing snow beginning near noon. We’re expecteing to see up to 20 cm during the day. Now that’s going to continue into the evening and we could see another 10 cm in the evening before that changes over to ice pellets and then to rain.”

Hubbard says strong, gusty winds up to 90 km/h will be a major factor with this storm giving poor visibility in blowing and drifting snow.

The storm is expected to clear out by Friday morning.
