UPDATE: Nails On Highway Leave Many Motorists Flat

A lost box of nails, turned into an unexpected visit to the mechanic and tire replacements for many motorists, and there may be others.

Tanya MacLeod went to work at Irving Tissue yesterday morning using the Paul street on ramp Highway 15, as she was always does.

By early afternoon, MacLeod and around six of her co-workers found they had flat tires, “I think there were around 40 nails in seven or eight tires.”

Since we posted and aired this report, others have come forward stating that they also have damaged tires.

One person told us it cost her husband $300 to have two tires replaced. While he was waiting for repairs, another person came in with the same issue.

The Department of Transportation told MacLeod it’s believed a box of nails may have fallen off a truck, and they ended up all over the road in that area.

The DOT also told MacLeod that around 5000 motorists would have travelled through that area yesterday morning.

“Make sure if you have driven through there in the last 24 hours to check your tires, because some people had two tires that had nails in their tires. I had at least seven nails in my tire,” MacLeod says.

The DOT says the nails were cleaned up this morning.
