Downtown Dieppe Grows Around Place 1604

Place 1604 celebrated its 10th anniversary this year as the public square continues to become the centrepiece of downtown Dieppe.

Mayor Yvon Lapierre says the square has become a year-round gathering spot thanks to the addition of the skating oval which has overcome its initial mechanical issues.

“Since November 12th, the oval has been open every day. Even on one occassion where we had a full day of rain, within a few hours after the rain stopped we actually had the oval operational again,” notes Lapierre.

Not only surrounded by the Dieppe City Hall Complex and the Market, Place 1604 now borders on new businesses and a new hotel.

The square also benefited from $150,000 in Canada 150 funding this year for beautification projects including public art.
