A white Christmas isn’t guaranteed in southern New Brunswick this year but it is possible according to a Weather Network meterologist.
Dayna Vetesse says there’s one storm system coming through early this weekend which will bring a messy mix of snow and rain from Saint John up towards Moncton. A second storm to hit could bring a lot of snow for New Brunswick or rain depending on the track of the storm.
“Unfortunately it looks like we might not see a white Christmas, it will really depend on what the next storm system does. There’s another storm system on the horizon that should be coming through sometime late Christmas eve and into Christmas day,” says Vetesse.
“If we’re looking at mostly snow for the system going into Christmas day, right now we’ve got about 5 to 10 centimetres in the forecast for I would say the Saint John to Moncton area but it’s really going to depend on where that rain-snow line sets up.”
Vetesse says year over year, the Saint John region typically has about a 40-45-percent chance of a white Christmas, Moncton typically is at 60-70-percent and then Halifax is lower than that with about a 40-percent chance.
Vetesse warns if you’re travelling this weekend heading into Christmas day you’ll probably run into difficulties depending on where you are in the Maritimes.
There is currently a special weather statement in effect from Environment Canada for all of New Brunswick.
