Man Rescued From Ice Floe In Northeastern New Brunswick

A 48-year-old man is now safe and sound after becoming trapped on an ice floe off of the island of Lameque in northeastern New Brunswick on Monday evening.

RCMP say it’s believed the man was out fishing when he got trapped on the ice. It was hard to find him because it was dark and because he was drifting on an ice floe his calls for help kept coming from different places.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax had a plane in the area that used a spotlight to illumate the area to help find him. He was then rescued after the fire department sent out a rescue boat.

The man was cold when he was found but was able to go home after being checked out by paramedics.
