Moncton Fire Battles Blaze In Extreme Cold Temperatures

There is extensive water, smoke and fire damage to a rooming house on Killam Drive.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says a fire broke out just after 11 last night in the attic area of the home, “On arrival, we had fire showing from the third floor and we had heavy smoke. Firefighterrs entered aggressively through the front door and six people were brought out to safety.”

There were around 17 firefighters on the scene, in minus 24 degree temperatures with the windchill.

Despite the cold temperatures, Bruens says they managed to get the fire under control quickly.

A Codiac Transpo bus was called to the scene, and provided warmth and shelter to those evacuated, while accommodations were being made.

There’s no word on a cause yet.
