Provincial Green Party leader David Coon is accusing the provincial government of imposing government enforced poverty.
Coon calls it shameful that the province claws back the child support payments from single parents on social assistance.
He says it’s estimated the direct cost of poverty to the provincial government comes to $500 million dollars which amounts to 5 per cent of the budget.
Coon adds there’s also the human cost of poverty which you can’t calculate.
