“Time Is Our Enemy”: Moncton Fire Chief Reminds Drivers To Pull Over When They See Emergency Vehicles

The Moncton Fire Department is reminding drivers to yield to emergency vehicles when they have lights and sirens active.

Fire Chief Eric Arsenault says they’ve had a few incidents recently when people appear to be confused or don’t hear or see emergency vehicles and don’t get out of the way.

“We’re trying to get to the scene of the emergency as quickly and safely as possible, and we really need the public’s cooperation to do their part, which is when you see or hear an emergency vehicle, you’re to slow down, move to the extreme right, and stop,” says Arsenault.

He goes on to say “time is our enemy in any emergency response, when someone calls 911 they have a crisis and there’s an expectation first responders will be able to get there in a reasonable timeline.”

Arsenault adds if there are delays because the traffic is not yielding that doesn’t help the person who called about the emergency, or first responders and can even put lives at risk.
