Tri-Communities All Get Increased Financial Support From The Gallant Government

All three local municipalities are getting increased funding from the provincial government for next year.

Moncton is getting a total of $6.9 million, up $3.7 million from 2017, thanks in part to the addition of the latest census and population data in the funding formula.

Moncton City Councillor Paul Pellerin expressed happiness at the unexpected additional revenue in a Facebook post.

He believes a portion of the money should be put into a reserve fund for a future rainy day.

As well, he wishes staff and Council to review cuts made for this upcoming budget, and to see if any community partners can be given more help with this extra money.

City of Moncton Chief Finance Officer John Martin explained earlier this month the budget was created with no expectation of extra revenue from the province.

Meanwhile, Dieppe’s grant is increasing slightly to just over $1 million, and the Town of Riverview is seeing an extra $300,000 to bring their total to $2.4 million.
