A mediator has been appointed by the provincial government in hopes of preventing a strike at Moncton City Hall.
The City and City Hall Employees Association representing about 230 employees in clerical, technical and supervisory positions have been negotiating a new contract since January.
A cooling off period is now underway but after next Thursday, November 23rd, the union can take a strike vote and the City could lockout employees.
If a work stoppage occcurs, Moncton spokesperson Isabelle LeBlanc says some city services may be disrupted but residents will be advised.
The most recent offer was a 6.5 percent wage increase over 4 years which was rejected by the union according to the city.
Salaries are the last remaining issue to be negotiated by both parties.
