Taxpayers Federation Weighs In On Conflict Of Interest

The controversy over conflict of interest allegations involving former M-L-A Donald Arsenault has caught the attention of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Its Atlantic Director Kevin Lacey is posing the question what’s the point of having an integrity commissioner if an M-L-A can also hold the job of a lobbyist simultaneously.

Saint John East M-L-A Glen Savoie says Premier Brian Gallant took 73 days before giving Arsenault an ultimatum to either remain as an M-L-A or resign and take up his job in Ottawa as government relations manager for the Building Trades.

Arsenault says he was cleared by the integrity commissioner as long as he didn’t lobby in New Brunswick. Lacey says the rules have to change or you need a new integrity commissioner.
