Greater Moncton Enjoys Second Warmest October Since 1881

Greater Moncton has just experienced the warmest October in 104 years.

Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says temperatures soared last month and were almost 4 degrees above normal – considered very significant.

“Moncton had a monthly mean temperature of 11.3 degrees in October and that was the seocnd warmest October on record for the Moncton area and that dates back to 1881,” he notes.

Hubbard says only in 1913 was the month of October slightly warmer at 11.5 degrees.

Greater Moncton had 12 days which reached 20 degrees or higher in October which made it feel more like August.

Precipitation was more than 30 percent below normal last month continuing a prolonged dry period which began in early summer.
