November 1st Brings A New Law That May Surprise You

It may surprise you to know that a lot of vehicles on the road today do not have daytime running lights, lights that automatically come on when you start the engine.
As of today, it’s the law in New Brunswick to have daytime running lights on your vehicle.

Sgt. Evan Scott of the KV Regional Police Force says there will be a period of adjustment before issuing any warnings or tickets.

He says they want to advise the motorists about the new law adding it was not well publicized but it is part of Bill 16-the new impaired driving legislation.
That new law includes the creation of a vehicle impoundment program for impaired drivers and a mandatory alcohol ignition interlock device program.
With the new daytime running light regulation, Sgt. Scott says it’s all boils down to being seen on the road adding that being seen is being safe.
For older vehicles that do not have daytime running lights, those drivers will have to turn on their headlights during the day.
