Busy Atlantic Hurricane Season Fuelled By Warm Water

We can thank Tropical Storm Jose for the warm and humid weather we’ve been getting this week in New Brunswick.

Forecasters say the former hurricane will bring gusty winds, heavy showers and rough surf to southwestern Nova Scotia over the next few days but will have little impact on the rest of the Maritimes.

Weather Network meteorologist Michael Carter says storms are stronger this season due to one major factor.

“The warm water – especially in the western Atlantic and the Gulf Stream – is helping to drive the warm temperatures and is also increasing the risk for tropical activity this year,” he notes.

The Atlantic hurricane season has been very busy in recent weeks with Harvey, Irma and now Maria causing massive destruction in the Caribbean and the Southeastern United States.
