Still no word on funding for the Raising the Grade program at the Riverview Boys and Girls Club.
Executive Director Lynda Carey told us they are at risk of losing the program at the end of the year, because funding will run out.
Riverview MLA Bruce Fitch says, It would be a shame if they are unable to offer the program anymore. I’ve seen the results of the program in Riverview. A young man who really had his life turned around. This program is one that is helping students get to a point where they are caught up and ready to move forward with their education.”
They need $55, 000 a year with a two year commitment.
“I guess it comes down to choices where the government has to put their money. it’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things
when you look at the substantial amount of money that is being spend on various projects. This would be helping children make the grade. By all means it should be funded. It’s not a lot of money, but the result in the effect, is monumental in Riverview.”
The Moncton Boys and Girls Club recently was granted $125, 000 for two years from the provincial government, to support their Raising the Grade program.
