National Acadian Day was established in 1881 during the First National Convention in Memramcook and the date was set for August 15th in an effort to identify themselves as distinct French speaking people in North America.
Tintamarre parades are being held in many communities across the province.
In Moncton, the tintamarre begins at 5:45pm and continues for about an hour, winding its way from Aberdeen Park and heading southward using Botsford, Main and Downing Streets to Riverfront Park.
