Record Medal Count For Team NB At Summer Games To Inspire Confidence In Other Athletes

Proud athletes and their coaches from Team New Brunswick arrived home early today, after a successful trip to Winnipeg for the Canada Summer Games.

Many of the over 400 athletes and their coaches made the flight home this morning.

Spokesperson Nicole Smith says the athletes brought with them a record number of medals with a total of 24 medals, and she says that will help encourage even more athletes for future competitions, “They’ll be a little more confident, and aware that they can compete at that level and nationally and have the results that they were able to achieve.”

She adds the this type of event encourages athletes in different ways, motivating them to work harder, but also creating a special bond with other athletes, “The ability to go cheer on your other Team New Brunswick teammates from other sports is something that they can’t experience in their own individual sports. There is that uniqueness about Canada Games being a multi-sport that is pretty special for the athletes during the Opening and Closing ceremonies. Many of them haven’t experienced that yet.”

Smith says the Canada Winter Games will be next, in Red Deer in 2019. New Brunswick expects to have another bunch of talented athletes to compete there as well.
