Peter McKee Community Food Centre Manager Ben MacMichael Taking Talents To Provincial Level

After a little more than a year as Manager of the Peter McKee Community Food Centre, Ben MacMichael is moving on.

He will be the NB Sharing Coordinator for the New Brunswick Association of Food Banks, starting mid-August.

MacMichael says NB Sharing is a program that funds all provincial food banks through partnerships and donations.

“And so my job is to go out and foster those relationships, those partnership,” says MacMichael. “I’m also going to be a resource for the food banks in New Brunswick, if there’s any way I can coach or help share best practices then yeah, that’s what I want to do!”

He will help all 59 food banks in New Brunswick help those in need.

“I’ve seen a lot, and because of the scale we’ve been able to do things in Moncton, we can maybe shed a little light on some of the difficulties other food banks may be having,” says MacMichael.

He emphasizes the importance of coordination in his role, to ensure everyone is working at peak efficiency because “there’s only so many resources and we need to be smart in how we allocate them.”

MacMichael continues “that’ll be a big part of my job, making sure there’s enough food, where it needs to be, in a timely manner.”

He says at the Peter McKee Community Food Centre, being able to implement a new standard for how those in poverty are helped has been a great challenge and privilege.

MacMichael was also effusive in his praise for volunteers and staff who make everything truly come together.
