Tour Of Hope 2017 A Success On All Fronts

Another year for the Tour of Hope fundraiser is in the books after 70 cyclists crossed the finish line late Sunday in Moncton.

The fundraiser sees the group of cyclists cover 650 kilometres in four days in a tour of the province to support the Tree of Hope Campaign.

According to their website, they raised $138,398.69 this year, shattering their goal of $80,000.

They began in Edmunston, before moving on to Campbellton, then Grand-Anse, then Miramichi, and finally ending four days later in Moncton.

Proceeds are used to buy highly specialized equipment; train highly specialized teams at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre; purchase equipment for satellite units in northern New Brunswick; support cancer research efforts; and update the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge in Moncton.

Last year, the Tour of Hope raised more than $113,000.

Dr. Carole Williams, gynecologist-oncologist and co-chair of the Tour of Hope 2017 says they received another warm welcome as they went through various communities, and they felt people were really there to support them.

She adds “that makes a huge difference when you’re taking on such a physical challenge [and] the adventure will be engraved in our memories for a long time.”
