Big Hearts, Small City Sees Growth With Addition Of Warehouse And Cube Van

Almost five years ago, Big Hearts, Small City was created..Since then, with the help of sponsors, it continues to grow.

Founder Jason Surette says they now have a warehouse on Barker Street to store donations, and a cube van to deliver them..

Surette says they are the only organization that always has mattresses on hand when they are immediately needed, but they are in high demand, “Pretty much, as fast as they come in, they usually go out. There’s not too often where we have a lot of mattresses lying around. We get them, we have a waiting list and they pretty much go out the door again. We get a lot of our mattress donations from Sleep Country, and the rest from the public. The warehouse is going to be a big benefit, because it gives us a place to store them.”

Surette adds, with the new warehouse, he hopes to be able to store donations for other locations as well, “If we can get enough beds in our storage warehouse, if Fredericton is looking for beds, we can figure out how to send beds there, whether it be with our truck or another way.”

Big Hearts, Small City currently helps fire victims and the less fortunate in Greater Moncton, Miramichi and Fredericton.

Currently, their funds and donations are very low, with only $800 in the account to help those in need and a shortage of mattresses.

Surette says Big Hearts, Small City has helped over 500 fire victims over the five years, and hundreds of others who were also in need.
