Moncton firefighters were able to knock down a fire in a detached garage before it did major damage to a house at 76 Autumn Terrace.
Deputy fire chief Don McCabe says the garage was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived just before noon time.
“One of our biggest problems we had to deal with was that the power line dropped down right in front of the garage which was our main approach to the fire and it had to make us change our strategy. So we went around to the other side of the building to attack the fire from there,” says McCabe.
McCabe says the fire did cause some damage to the home’s attic and repairs will be needed but he adds the garage was a total loss.
Three residents managed to get out safely and firefighters rescued two cats from inside the home.
Fire investigators are on scene trying to find a cause.
