Study Shows Many Seniors Could Remain At Home Longer

A revealing report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information has been released after a three year study of more than 59,000 seniors in 35 health regions.

The report concludes more than 20% of seniors admitted to residential care might have been able to stay in their own homes if they had the proper level of support.

The report also discovered those seniors who were assessed in hospitals had a greater chance of being admitted to residential care.

Within the next 20 years, the population of older seniors, 75 and above,, who rely more heavily on continuing care services is expected to double from 2.6 million to 5.7 million.
