Andrew Scheer is slamming the Liberal government for what he calls a “secret deal” to pay Omar Khadr a reported $10.5 million.
The federal Conservative leader calls the settlement to Khadr’s lawsuit for Canadian officials’ role in his treatment in Guantanamo “disgusting”.
Scheer says he would have refused to agree to such a payment.

While the Supreme Court says Khadr’s civil rights were violated in Guantanamo Bay, he says letting him back into Canada was enough compensation.
Scheer says it shows contempt for the family of the US solder who Khadr allegedly killed, adding he feels the government rushed to settle Khadr’s lawsuit.
He says the settlement means the widow of the soldier Khadr is accused of killing can’t have her claim heard.
