RCMP Advise Everyone To Be Alert When Walking Alone On Parks And Trails

A recent report to RCMP of an incident in Mapleton Park, has many people on edge.

A woman reported to police that she was confronted by a man on a trail in the Park on July 3rd.

RCMP says they are investigating the incident, but the public’s help is needed.

Sergeant Chantal Farrah says it’s not clear at this point what the man’s intentions were, and they are asking anyone who may have been in the Park at around 8:15 on July 3rd, and noticed anything suspicious, to please contact them.

Farrah says these types of cases are rare in Greater Moncton, but if you are walking on your own, you should always be aware of your surroundings, “Be aware of where you are. Always take proper safety precautions. If you encounter something that your sixth sense says something doesn’t look right, go with your gut.”

She adds, “If you are going to be walking late at night or by yourself, in a secluded area, take a friend with you.”

Farrah notes, “If you are confronted, do whatever you can to get away. The best line of defense are your lungs. If something happens, you kick, you scream you bite and you get away from an incident, and then you report it.”
