Fraud On The Rise

The Financial and Consumer Services Commission has released a survey showing 38 per cent of people in New Brunswick believe they have been approached with a fraudulent investment opportunity in the past year. That’s 4 per cent higher than the year before.

Research conducted by the Canadian Securities Administrators indicates 32 per cent of fraud victims in Atlantic Canada report they tended to stay away from social events after being conned and 21 per cent even suffered job losses.

The commission will set up kiosks at summer events throughout the province to make people aware of how they can ensure they don’t get scammed.
