It’s time to break out those air conditioners and fans as the first heat wave of the year is about to hit New Brunswick.
The province is under a special weather statement warning of a warm and humid airmass that will settle over the Maritimes late this week and into the weekend.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jill Maepea says we could see heat warnings issued.
“So we are looking at temperatures probably in the low 30s for a good portion of the province and those overnight lows will be around that 18-degree mark,” says Maepea.
“It’s due to a warm and humid airmass that will approach from the southwest, it’s also affecting parts of Ontario and Quebec, so we are expecting the humidity levels and the temperatures to rise for this long Canada day weekend coming up.”
Maepea says it looks like western and central New Brunswick should get the warmest temperatures while coastal areas will be somewhat cooler.
