Premier Says Swift Action Taken To Address Water Quality At Parlee Beach

An online publication called “Insider” has named Parlee Beach as one of the top 13 dirtiest beaches in the world.

The article cites an aging sewage system as the likely culprit behind the pollution.

Premier Brian Gallant says the government is taking action to address the water quality at Parlee Beach.

“We are taking the water quality at all of our beaches and specifically at Parlee Beach very seriously. Unfortunately, there have been some problems that have been built up over many years, even decades and we’re taking swift action to address it,” he says.

At least one citizens group doesn’t think the province is moving fast enough.

The Red Dot Association believes raw sewage from the beach’s aging sewer system is seeping into Shediac Bay.

The Association has asked the RCMP to investigate whether or not the province has broken laws over water quality issues at Parlee Beach.
