New Codiac RCMP HQ Completion Date Pushed Back To 2022

A new headquarters for Codiac RCMP isn’t going to be completed until early to mid 2022, according to the latest estimates provided at the Codiac Regional Policing Authority meeting.

Building Committee member Ross MacKay says the three municipalities now have to discuss the initiation and funding of the proposed next steps in the coming weeks.

“These discussions will include such tasks as hiring a project manager to oversee the project, finalizing the land purchase, completing the design and engineering aspects of the project,” says MacKay. “And of course the awarding of the construction contract.”

MacKay says they are responsible for providing options, and the three community councils can debate and discuss which is best.

“Everything from its content, its size, shape, and location will still be debated during that period, none of those things have been decided in fact, as yet,” says MacKay.

Superintendent Tom Critchlow saying when he worked here back in 2009, there was talk even then of a new facility.

“We look forward to working with the design team, providing the information that they will require,” says Critchlow. “We have a special projects team out of Halifax who manage these types of project with their expertise.”

Critchlow wrapped up his brief comments on the subject by saying they were heading into “exciting times.”

MacKay says design could take 12 to 14 months, with bidding and construction of the actual building taking between 18 to 24 months.
